The turd in the quagmire
IoT - Internet of Shit
We all suffer under this illusion that we need to make everything smart… Somehow it became the norm that our Fridge needs an internet connection?
How did we get there? Why are we here?
Luckily this can be put into its own little walled garden in accordance with what has been discussed earlier.
It is not always easy to make sane decisions around what needs to be smart, dumb, connected or exposed, which is why we are here today where the Fridge will call up whoever the grocer is and ensure that you have a steady supply of your favourite things…
What are we to do when the Fridge puts us on a diet we did not agree to?
We are getting to a point where we have automated so much of our lives that we no longer make any decisions for ourselves, we are at the mercy of whatever AI we deal with and what that feels is the right thing for us.
There is always talk about when Artificial Intelligence will take over, it pretty much has… We are force fed ads based on our private conversations that should… remain private.
Even if I have a smart voice system, why does it need to report back to any central algorithm or entity what is being talked about in my house? A lot of trust to not abuse said power comes into play.. and I do not trust any entities that much…
We can all agree that some assistance through the day is nice, but not at the cost of your privacy, we all want peace of mind and some people simply do not care that their data is being sent all over the place.
Enough ranting….
In short; we should be very selective about what we introduce into our lives and homes…
Today it seems to be the norm at least in the technological to introduce all kinds of gadgets without much thought, people are not critical to what they procure and start using.
I guess the point that needs to come across is more of a philosophical thought where you stop and think if everything around you needs to be smart, needs to be connected, needs to phone home…
