The ever-evolving setup
In this day and age, everyone is somewhat obsessed with their setup and work environment.
Do not get me wrong, one can always appreciate nice things and nice surroundings, which makes our isolated existence in these times a bit easier to bear and deal with.
What I have noticed lately is that many people are flaunting their setups and changes to their setups on YouTube without taking into account the environmental costs for this, not that they consistently picking top shelf high-end gear.
This only ever fuels the problems we have with society today, with states of mind such as FOMO and sad people with happy pictures, and even when its listed that the segmentincludes paid promotions etc it is in most cases not justifiable to spend so much money and/or resources on such a thing.
I also like to have nice things etc, but at the same time we need to be more conscious about how we are sourcing and using resources.
We are discarding items that are still fully functional to keep up with the trends and the fact that we have a “Fear of missing out” while in fact this chase leads to even more resource spending and digs us deeper into the dopamine prison.
I myself have fallen into this trap, and it is difficult to get out of… but no impossible…
Today I only replace what is broken or on a per needs basis, more akin to your trousers are full of holes, you can either fix or replace them, and for me I do not mean that there is a tiny hole somewhere, I aim at functional breaking.
Same goes for when the trousers are too small due to… pandemic pounds or you are getting into shape (round is also a shape), the body changes and with it its requirements.
I just feel that we are throwing away resources that we have no need to throw away.
Be happy with what you got, and embrace life!
