The many buzzwords of technology
In todays tech-society we are constantly bombarded with concepts that are ill defined and not well penciled out.
This makes the life of the lowly tech people hard, having to fend off management and people who only ever heard about a certain thing in passing and how great it is… without a single thought as to how it would fit in with their operations..

Many of these things are philosophical and should not be paired with technology until the ramifications for it has been defined and tested, we see today too many knee-jerk decisions from the powers to be and no Discovery nor Proof of Concept … You are told to just get it done and get it working, even if you have to implement small “hacks” and other “shortcuts” to just keep it on its feet.

Having such a mentality is not good for moral nor monetary aspects and will cause a considerable amount of stress, and the stress can be felt in the entire chain of command where the normal workers will express their dismay and opinion upwards.

It is a controversial field to thread your feet into, but for the sake of sanity and operational stability, management should heed the words of the technological people rather than thinking just with the money bag or what sounds really shiny and new.

The need for proper discovery phase

It is often an overlooked how important a proper “Proof of Concept” can be and having the right people doing it.
And all the blame gets rolled down hill when implementations and setups are not working as they were promised to the upper management, because no PoC nor discovery was done.

It is important that functions and services are mapped out correctly before you even start thinking about introducing new products and/or tools, this will make future you much happier about what road was taken and which tools / products got taken into the fold.
The upside is, with doing it this way, you spend a bit more time on testing things and much less money on buying the wrong services / products.

And within all this, we need to keep vigilant and not create further SPOF’s as this causes further issues down the line.

I can not speak to what would be the correct way of doing this, as I for now have only experienced the wrong ways of doing this, I have some ideas around it but nothing that can be viewed as an established methodology for this.
